I have been following the blog
Want What You Have for a few months now and I am always encouraged and challenged. The author is a devout christian and stay at home mom who writes about her family's endeavor to live a frugal, meaningful, simple life. She writes about her faith, organizational strategies, and home management tips. I am always intrigued by her blog. I have recently implemented many of her tips and am enjoying trying new things. I too desire to "want what I have" and use the resources God has entrusted to me. Brian and I both desire to live a simple, meaningful life.
I have recently embraced the role of manager of this home. I feel it is my job as the stay at home mommy to make sure that the management of this home run smoothly. That can be a big job, but I gladly and happily accept the challenge. From parenting to the laundry to meal shopping and planning to the cleaning schedule this is all a part of my full time job right now. I have sacrificed my teaching career that I loved to be home with the boys right now and I wouldn't trade that for the world. I want to treasure each day
and be productive in our home.
All that to say I have taken some of the tips and strategies written by the author of the blog and have made my own "Home Management Guide" for our family. She gives recommendations of how to make your own and I tweaked it to make it my own. I am interested to see how well I use it, but also want it as a resource for my family. One example that the blog author gave was there was a time when she was on bed rest for 6 weeks and her home management guide came in very handy during her illness. I even showed it to Brian tonight in case he needs any of the information in it too. I hope it helps us all.
One thing I created that is helping me the most is a daily and weekly schedule for myself for cleaning and organizational tasks. So far it is really helping me with all the tasks I feel like I face regularly.
There are 5 sections in my "home management guide": Work Schedules, Cleaning/Food, Parenting, Finance, and Contacts. A few examples of thing in the "home management guide" are: a daily family schedule, emergency contact information, master grocery list, meal planning, daily cleaning tasks, monthly and quarterly cleaning tasks, our framework for our budget, names and numbers for contact information, anything else I feel is important to have on hand for our family. I want to be able to retrieve what we need quickly and easily.
Then today while browsing at Target I found a ton of cool products made by Mead and they too have a ton of resources for home managers at
http://www.mead.com/. Just click on " Home Managers" to see cool downloads. I found and printed a few today!
I hope and pray that I can be an awesome Mommy, Wife, and Homemaker. As this is what I feel God has called me to for such a time as this!
Over and Out!
